New Delhi: March 17, Friday, witnessed two grounded stories being told in the cinemas. Rani Mukerji’s ‘Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway’ and Kapil Sharma’s ‘Zwigato’ were released in theatres yesterday, but failed to bring in a massive audience to buy tickets. However, ‘Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway’ outperformed ‘Zwigato’ at the box office as it earned Rs 1.27 crore.

Releasing on 535 screens across the country, Rani Mukerji’s film found its momentum later in the day and as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film earned Rs 1.27 crore on day 1. On the other hand, Nandita Das’ directorial venture ‘Zwigato’ could earn Rs 42 lakhs on the opening day.

While the producers would have expected more, the weekend will be crucial for both films. March 18-19 will bring a chance for the films to sell tickets as word of mouth spread among the potential audience.

Directed by Ashima Chhiber, ‘Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway’ earned positive reviews from Bollywood stars including Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif and Shah Rukh Khan to name a few. The actors praised Rani Mukerji’s acting and many were moved after attending the screening of the film.

The film is based on real-life incidents and follows an immigrant mother fighting for her children’s custody and standing against the Norwegian foster care system. The movie also stars Neena Gupta, Jim Sarbh and Anirban Bhattacharya.

‘Zwigato’ follows the life and journey of a food delivery person and stars Shahana Goswami opposite Kapil Sharma.

Both these films were outnumbered by Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer rom-com ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ as it earned Rs 3.37 crore on Friday, taking its total gross collection to Rs 109.15 crore.
