Todd at was curious to know if tool batteries sold as “high output” (said to have 50% more power and run cooler) actually live up to their claims and are worth the extra money.

He tested high output vs. regular batteries and compared them for performance using various “high drain” power tools, including chainsaw, circular saw, shop vac, and a leaf blower.

Batteries were tested at approximately 70F and at near 0F. The batteries were also bench tested for capacity and drain curve.

The bottom line? Todd came to the conclusion that, unless you’re working in extremely cold conditions, he didn’t see enough of a performance increase to justify the added cost.
